UPVS Agriculture Pipes IS 4985

UPVS Agriculture Pipes IS 4985

UPVC stands for Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride, and it is one of the most widely used plastic materials for pipes in agricultural, plumbing, and irrigation systems. The IS 4985:2000 standard governs the specification for UPVC pipes used for potable water supplies, including agriculture.

  • Corrosion Resistant – No rusting, suitable for underground and wet conditions.

  • Chemical Resistant – Withstands fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals.

  • Lightweight – Easy to transport, handle, and install.

  • High Flow Efficiency – Smooth internal surface reduces friction loss.

  • Durable – Long service life under tough agricultural environments.

  • Leak-Proof Joints – Solvent cement joints ensure secure connections.

  • UV Stabilized – Can be used outdoors under sunlight without damage.

  • Non-Toxic – Safe for drinking water and irrigation of crops.

Classifications:-

UPVC agriculture pipes are classified based on several factors to suit different usage requirements. One of the primary classifications is by pressure class, which indicates the internal pressure a pipe can handle. These are denoted in MPa or kg/cm² and range from Class 1 (2.5 kg/cm²) up to Class 5 (10.0 kg/cm²). Higher pressure classes require thicker pipe walls and are used in systems with greater water pressure needs.

Pressure:-

UPVC pipes are categorized by how much internal pressure they can handle:

  • Class 1 – 0.25 MPa (2.5 kg/cm²)

  • Class 2 – 0.40 MPa (4.0 kg/cm²)

  • Class 3 – 0.60 MPa (6.0 kg/cm²)

  • Class 4 – 0.80 MPa (8.0 kg/cm²)

  • Class 5 – 1.00 MPa (10.0 kg/cm²)
